The Viet Nam Association of Architects, working with the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, has opened submissions for the National Architecture Awards 2026-2027. The biennial program, first established in 1993, recognizes buildings, planning projects, and research that reflect Vietnamese identity while meeting creative, cultural, and social standards.
A long-running benchmark for Vietnamese design
The National Architecture Awards rank among Vietnam's most prestigious official architecture honors, intended to encourage design creativity, steer the direction of national architectural practice, and build public appreciation for architecture as an art form. Winning entries also serve as a qualifying step toward other major accolades, including the State Award for Literature and Arts, the Ho Chi Minh Prize, and select international architecture awards.
Four categories spanning buildings, planning, and criticism
This cycle accepts entries across four main categories: building architecture; interior and exterior architecture; planning, landscape architecture, and urban design; and architectural research, theory, and criticism. The building category is broad, covering residential projects such as apartment blocks and social housing, public works including hospitals, schools, and museums, industrial facilities like factories and export processing zones, and special structures such as stadiums, airports, and bridges. It also includes conservation and adaptive-reuse projects tied to architectural heritage.
The planning category takes in urban and rural planning, inter-commune and commune-level construction plans, functional zone layouts, landscape architecture, and urban design. The research and criticism category will evaluate published studies, specialist journals, and architectural films released within the eligible period.
Eligibility, structure, and how to apply
Organizers say the awards favor entries that pursue new design ideas aligned with Vietnamese green-architecture criteria and relevant international standards, with added weight given to community benefit and positive contributions to the field. Vietnamese citizens with projects in Vietnam or abroad, as well as foreign nationals with works located in Vietnam, may enter, and each author or team may submit more than one project.
The 2026-2027 edition will award a Grand Prize plus Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards within each category and specialist field, along with a separate prize decided by public vote. Entrants must submit both hard-copy documents and an online registration; the submission deadline is December 15, 2026. Printed applications go to the Organising Committee of the National Architecture Awards at the Viet Nam Association of Architects, No. 40 Tang Bat Ho Street, Hanoi, while full rules and registration details are posted on the association's sites, tapchikientruc.com.vn and kienviet.net.
