Siri Gains Memory and Five New Languages in iOS 27.2 Rollout

Apple has released iOS 27.2, a wide-ranging update that gives Siri the ability to recall past conversations, extends the assistant's beta language support, and brings Apple Pencil compatibility to the foldable iPhone Duo. The release also bundles more than 160 security fixes, some of which have been backported to older iOS versions still in wide use.

Siri's memory and expanded language reach

With iOS 27.2, Siri can now operate in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, though these additions remain in beta. More notably, the assistant can retain details from earlier conversations and use them to inform later answers - a capability that has become a competitive focal point among AI developers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, all of which have pushed their own assistants toward better long-term recall of user preferences.

Siri's expanded memory draws on more than just dialogue history. The assistant can reference photos shared in Messages, calendar invitee lists, voicemail transcripts, Safari browsing history, and saved reading lists to generate more contextually relevant responses. Apple is giving users a way to manage this by letting them specify which apps Siri should not draw memories from, a privacy control aimed at limiting how much personal data feeds into the assistant's recall.

Hardware support and collaboration features

The update also addresses the recently launched iPhone Duo, Apple's foldable device, by adding Apple Pencil support within apps such as Notes and Preview. An Edge Light effect is included as well, designed to improve facial lighting during video calls on the device.

FaceTime receives several additions too. Dual Capture lets users stream simultaneously from the front and rear cameras during group calls, while a new option allows a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to join a call. Elsewhere, iOS 27.2 adds smarter prompts in Messages, suggesting when a text should become a calendar event or reminder, and Shared Albums now support caption editing, comments, and expiration alerts.

Streaming, podcasts, and security patches

Apple TV gains Multiview on iPhone, letting viewers follow up to four live sports feeds at once, covering Major League Soccer, Formula 1 races in the U.S., and Friday night Major League Baseball doubleheaders. F1 broadcasts also support multiple simultaneous camera feeds. The Podcasts app has been refreshed to surface new episodes from followed shows alongside whatever the listener is currently playing.

On the security side, Apple says iOS 27.2 includes over 160 fixes, many of which have been extended to devices still running iOS 26 - a version Apple says roughly 80% of iPhone users remain on. Separately, Apple backported a fix to iOS 18 users addressing a vulnerability the company describes as having been exploited in "an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals" on versions prior to iOS 27. Apple did not identify who was behind the exploit, though this phrasing typically signals spyware or forensic tools used by state actors or law enforcement against a narrow set of targets rather than the general public.
