Middlesex County has launched an update to its Transportation and Mobility Plan, a policy document meant to guide future road, transit and safety investments countywide. Officials are inviting residents to weigh in on traffic conditions, bus service and road safety, starting with an in-person meeting next week and a virtual session in November.
What the Plan Covers
The updated plan is intended to produce "actionable recommendations and an implementation framework" for keeping the county's transportation network safe, efficient and accessible, according to county officials. That means the document will likely touch on everything from intersection design and bus routing to pedestrian and cyclist safety, though specific recommendations have not yet been finalized. The plan's stated goal is to make travel "safer, easier, and more reliable for everyone," per a flyer announcing the effort.
How to Participate
The first public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cafeteria C of the College Center at Middlesex College, 2600 Woodbridge Ave., Edison. Attendees driving to the session should use parking lots 1, 2, 3 or 4; those relying on public transit can reach the campus via NJ Transit bus routes 813 and 814, exiting at the Middlesex County College stop. Pre-registration is encouraged, though not required, through MiddlesexTMPublicMeeting1.eventbrite.com.
Residents who cannot attend in person have a second opportunity: a virtual meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration for that session is available at itl.ink/TransportationMobilityVirtualMeeting. Both formats are designed to let residents describe what currently works and what doesn't in their daily travel, whether that involves car commutes, bus reliability, sidewalks or bike infrastructure.
Accessibility and Further Information
The county says language assistance and accessibility accommodations are available on request by contacting the planning team at [email protected]. Residents seeking more background on the plan before attending can review materials posted at itl.ink/MiddlesexNJ-Transportation-Mobility. Because this is the plan's initial public input phase, no draft recommendations or timeline for adoption have been released yet; those details are expected to emerge as the county gathers feedback through this fall's meetings.
